Medix 21 Surgical has become the New Zealand distributor for California-based New World Medical, bringing a range of new products to the market, including the Kahook Dual Blade for goniotomy and Ahmed ClearPath glaucoma drainage device.
“We are excited to be working with these new products and to expand our offering in the ophthalmic space,” said Camille Furnandiz, Medix 21 surgical sales manager. “While it has been a challenging year for us due to Covid, it has given us the time to research more products for our market, achieving good clinical outcomes whilst bringing innovation and cost effectiveness to our customers.”
Used for excisional goniotomy, the Kahook Dual Blade’s proprietary design and unique dimensions enable precise excision of diseased trabecular meshwork allowing for increased access to collector channels, Furnandiz said. “It’s a significantly more cost effective minimal invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) treatment compared with other options currently available in New Zealand.”
The Ahmed Clear Path implant has a unique flexible plate with a shape that closely conforms to the curvature of the eye, while the suture fixation points are positioned more anteriorly on the device compared to other valveless drainage devices, Furnandiz explained. “By making the suture points more visible and accessible, the surgeon may find securing this implant to the eye more convenient.”
Medix 21 is also in the process of introducing Aurovue’s cost effective intraocular lens (IOL) range, together with SIFI Medtech’s IOLs Mini Well and Mini Well Toric, the first progressive extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOLs on the market, said Furnandiz.
