The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) will host the first-ever Global Eye Health Summit in 2026, with the stated goal of bringing together world leaders to turn promises and commitments into actionable, measurable plans.
Five years on from the UN resolution on vision for everyone, this is a crucial opportunity to accelerate progress towards better global eye health, said Peter Holland, IAPB CEO. “We are at a critical juncture – failure to act decisively now will lead to a future where billions of people are affected by preventable or treatable sight loss.”
The Global Summit on Eye Health aims to: harness political leadership to agree and deliver new national policy goals and commitment, mobilise resources and finances to generate transformational change, secure national eye health roadmaps and accountability framework, and champion and raise awareness of eye health globally.
The summit’s date and location are still being finalised. IAPB welcomes both member and non-members to get involved in the campaign.
